Pumping tunes and eyeball-bursting colour combinations were the order of the day at Waroona Golf Club’s inaugural Fast4 Golf event.
Featuring 32 pairs facing off in a four-hole knock-out combined Stableford format, Fast4 Golf lived up to its billing with each round being completed in under an hour.
Winning pairs progressed, while the eliminated teams had the option of a further six holes of social golf or to hang out at the clubhouse and cheer on the remaining contenders over a sausage sizzle and tinny or two.
All the while, classic Australian rock tunes blasted from loudspeakers on the club verandah, contributing to the sort of party atmosphere rarely seen outside of LIV Golf events.
A new initiative for Waroona GC, Fast4 Golf certainly captured imaginations, with teams from as far afield as Harvey, Hartfield, Mandurah, Serpentine, The Cut, Lake Karrinyup and The Western Australian Golf Club making the trek to the Peel-based sand greens course.
GolfWA was represented by Chief Executive Arron Minchin and Clubs & Facilities Manager Brett Symons, while popular golf content creator Jess Kelly (aka @jk4thebirdies) also made a guest appearance.

The brainchild of long-time Waroona member John Mason, the Fast4 Golf day was hailed as a big success — and one the club hopes will now become a permanent fixture on the regional golfing calendar.
“We’re really delighted with how the day went,” Mason told GolfWA. “The vibe was great, and the buy-in we had from other clubs and local non-members was, too. It didn’t hurt that we cleared $2,000 on the bar, either!
“We had 20 women and 40 men competing, and the feedback received has been so positive. The best part was giving people the chance ot have a hit and get to know new people in a fun and inclusive setting.
“Golf is all about getting outside, having fun and meeting new people, and Fast4 Golf is perfect for that. Now that people know about it, we hope the event can go from strength to strength in future years.”
Just about the only difficulty on the day was fitting five rounds of play in before the sun set, but that was OK because the two pairs of finalists — Rod Styles & Ray Vergone and Jeff & Marg Scott — agreed to share first place and split the prize fund between them!
There was also a prize awarded for the best (or was that worst?) dressed team, which went to Sharon Williamson and Debbie Oliver (pictured below) for obvious reasons. They each claimed an item of their choice from the Royal & Awesome golf fashion brand.

GolfWA’s Brett Symons paid tribute to the club’s positive approach, saying: “This was a really good day out, and I congratulate the club for coming up with such a fun and inclusive concept.
“It was great to see so many other club golfers supporting the event and is a perfect example of what can be achieved when clubs get creative and look beyond the standard Saturday competition.”
