Applications are now open for the 2027 Australian Golf Foundation Junior Girls Scholarship Program.
Since its inception in 2021, the national program has provided the opportunity for more than 6,000 girls to enhance their golf skills, while building lasting friendships and a long-term love for the game.
This year alone has seen a record number of girls take part in the program, 1,608 girls participating at 173 golf clubs throughout Australia — including more than a dozen in WA.
Program participant Sophia (pictured top right) completed the scholarship at Wembley Golf Course in 2025 and says she thoroughly recommends other girls give it a go.
“Golf is just a really fun game,” she told GolfWA. “Since being part of the program, I’ve been doing a lot better at golf and have made heaps of new friends.”
PGA professional Claire Elvidge oversees Wembley’s girls’ scholarship program. She believes its onus on fun and socialising makes it the perfect starting point in golf.
“For starters, it’s great that the program gets girls away from screens and on to the golf course,” she said.
“It’s not about creating elite golfers, it’s more about camaraderie and friendship and finding ways to keep them interested in golf, such as through GolfWA’s TeeMates Tour.”
