Jazy Roberts to headline Bowra & O’Dea Women’s Classic

Victorian sensation Jazy Roberts — Australia’s leading woman in the World Amateur Golf Rankings — will contest the Bowra & O’Dea Women’s Classic at Mount Lawley GC in September.

The 20-year-old Yarra Yarra GC member (pictured) is currently ranked 33rd in the WAGR women’s rankings after a stellar year that has seen her land significant titles at home and abroad.

Notably, Roberts coasted to victory at the Women’s Australian Amateur Championship at The Western Australian Golf Club in February, firing a course-record 63 in the final round to win by six strokes.

She followed that up with victory at The Riversdale Cup in March and the English Women’s Stroke Play Championship in June.

Roberts also represented Australia in fine style at the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific, finishing T3rd, and went undefeated as Victoria claimed the Interstate Teams series in May.

She came desperately close to winning the 2024 Bowra & O’Dea Women’s Classic — again at WAGC — losing in a sudden-death playoff when Ella Scaysbrook holed out for eagle from a greenside bunker at the first extra hole.

GolfWA’s Golf Operations Manager Neil Goddard said he was delighted to be welcoming a player of Roberts’ calibre back to one of the state’s most prestigious tournaments.

“Jazy has enjoyed a magnificent two or three years and has proved herself to be one of Australian golf’s brightest prospects,” he said.

“It’s great for the event that Jazy is playing and also a great opportunity for our WA-based players to see how their games measure up to hers. It should be a terrific few days at Mount Lawley.”

Other amateur heavyweights from the eastern states have also been confirmed for the championship, with 2025 champion Grace Rho returning to defend her crown.

The QLD state golfer and Australian representative, Rho defeated WA’s Ruby Cotton in a playoff to land the Bowra & O’Dea title at Lake Karrinyup last year.

State representatives Ionna Muir (QLD), Stephanie Keylock (South Australia), Jordyn Deen (NSW) and Jessie Yun (Victoria) are some of the other eastern states golfers who will compete at Mount Lawley.

Amongst the leading home-based players confirmed in the field are WA state golfers Ruby Cotton, Valerie Khuu (both Mount Lawley), Amie Phobubpa (Joondalup), Kortni Houston (Lakelands), Isabella Leniartek (Royal Perth), Katie Seol (Cottesloe) and Meihui Zhao (Royal Perth).

As well as the 72-hole Women’s Classic, the Bowra & O’Dea also features concurrent 54-hole events for Mid-Amateurs and Seniors.

This year’s event takes place at Mount Lawley Golf Club from August 31st to September 2nd.
