Nine WA layouts — including two new entries — have been named in Australian Golf Digest’s latest top 100 course listing.
The popular magazine’s 20th biennial countdown of Australia’s best courses was compiled by 271 judges, who provided detailed feedback on nearly 8,000 rounds of golf at 824 different courses.
Judging criteria included shot options, challenge, distinctiveness, layout variety, conditioning, character and aesthetics.
As per usual, Lake Karrinyup Country Club is WA’s highest-ranked inclusion in 22nd position, a drop of five places since the 2024/25 listing.
While this marks the first time in the 40-year history of the AGD rankings that Lake Karrinyup has placed outside the top 20, judges note that this has more to do with the hotter competition nationwide than any failings with the course.
WA’s best-of-the-rest was once again Joondalup Country Club’s Quarry/Dunes course, which fell nine spaces to 30th in this year’s list.
Following the completion of long-term renovation works, both Mount Lawley GC and The Links Kennedy Bay made triumphant returns to the upper echelons of the list, occupying 37th and 40th positions respectively.
The Cut maintained its top 50 ranking in 42nd spot, while Cottesloe, Kalgoorlie, The Western Australian Golf Club and Meadow Springs are all ranked between 62nd and 72nd. However, Royal Fremantle, Secret Harbour and Albany GC all dropped out of the top 100.
