Camerer shoots low to land Regional Seniors crown

Viv Camerer is the 2024 GolfWA Regional Seniors champion after two exceptional rounds in tricky conditions at Katanning Golf Club.

Bolgart GC member Camerer (pictured above) was on the right side of the draw to avoid the worst of the weather on day one at the narrow-tree-lined Great Southern club, which was lashed with rain and a chill breeze that blew away the ambitions of many in the field.

Players getting close to matching their handicaps were in a strong position after the opening round of the Stableford championship, with Jennifer Poet (Northampton GC) coping best with the torrid conditions to post 39 points and take the overnight lead.

However, with 13 players within five points of her lead – including Camerer – there was all to play for on day two, which remained cold but dry, with enough glimpses of the sun to keep spirits up.

The day belonged to 23-handicapper Camerer, however, who played out of her skin to record 46 Stableford points – four points better than anyone else – to turn a five-point deficit into a commanding seven-point victory with a two-round total of 81.

Jennifer Davidson (Hopetoun Everett) finished as runner-up on 74 points, while Robyn Parsons (Dongara GC) was third on a countback after tying with Barbara King (PInjarra GC) on 71 points.

Champion Camrerer became the first Bolgart GC member to land the prestigious Britannia Cup in the event’s 32-year history – and was delighted with her two days’ work.

“I’m so thrilled to win this,” Viv told GolfWA. “The course has been superb and it’s nice to have hit the ball straight! I really had to concentrate throughout and I’m so, so pleased.”

2024 GolfWA Regional Seniors

There was plenty of fun to be had on the fairways at Katanning Golf Club!

With numerous prizes also awarded across a range of categories, the event was another great celebration of regional seniors golf, with a field of 95 competitors from both country and city clubs making the trek to Katanning. View all the scores and prizewinners here.

The course itself was presented superbly, with firm and bouncy fairways and an incredible amount of greenery considering how dry the summer had been. There was also plenty of room for fun, with a Barbie-themed celebratory dinner held on Thursday night after Round 1.

The event will head to the south coast next year, with Denmark Country Club set to host the GolfWA Regional Seniors on May 1-2, 2025.
