Several WA clubs and facilities have been announced as finalists for the upcoming inaugural Golf Australia National Awards of Excellence.
The new awards aim to celebrate the people and places that are inspiring more Australians to play more golf, and all finalists have been recognised for making a meaningful impact in their community and in promoting golf as an inclusive sport for all.
Nearly 40 clubs, facilities, places to play, businesses and individuals have been recognised for their contribution to golf, with the winners set to be announced at an online ceremony in September.
Amongst the WA clubs in contention for gongs are Mandurah Country Club (pictured above) and Margaret River Golf Club in the respective Metropolitan and Regional categories of the Most Outstanding Club, Facility or Place to Play Awards.
The clubs earned their nominations having won the equivalent awards at this year’s WA Golf Industry Awards.
Busselton GC is in the running for the Women and Girls in Golf Award following the success of its ‘Swing and Sip’ program that has introduced hundreds of women and girls to golf since its inception in late 2023.
The initiative has already bagged the club accolades at the R&A Women in Golf Charter Awards and WA Golf Industry Awards in the past 12 months.
Similarly, The Vines Golf & Country Club is in contention for the Get Into Golf Venue of the Year Award in recognition of the tireless efforts of Mark Tibbles and Anne-Marie England to bring more adults into golf – including their strong focus on All Abilities golf.
Margaret River GC’s Jackie Dickson is one of seven finalists for the Volunteer of the Year having won the WA state award earlier this year.
Meanwhile, City of Karratha and City of Stirling are finalists in the Local Government Recognition category for successful initiatives to promote and grow golf in their communities; while Stirling Leisure is up for the Most Outstanding Environmental Initiative award.
Other categories include the MyGolf Venue of the year and the Golf Supplier of the Year. Find out more about the awards here.
