The golf events to look forward to in September

The PGA Tour season may have concluded, but there’s no shortage of golf to get excited about at a global, national and local level.

The LPGA, LET and DP World Tours are moving towards the business-end of their seasons, with several WA golfers facing a crunch couple of months. Here we outline the golf events to be aware of this September…

Women’s tours

Maddison Hinson-Tolchard

There’s still plenty of golf to be played on the LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour, which don’t conclude until late November.

At this crucial stage of the season, the top players are jostling for position to ensure they make the fields for the big-money tour finales, while others will simply be hoping to do enough to maintain their playing rights for 2026.

There are two LPGA events in September – the Kroger Queen City Championship in Ohio and the NW Arkansas Championship – which three WA players will be looking at through quite different lenses.

Minjee Lee won the Queen City Championship in 2023 and another good performance will enhance her chances of topping the season-ending rankings (she’s currently second behind Jeeno Thitikul). The 29-year-old is also miles out in front in the 2025 Money List, with earnings of US$3.5m – almost a million dollars clear of the rest.

Hannah Green is currently 52nd in the LPGA standings after an inconsistent season and needs some strong results to ensure she finishes inside the top 70 to reach November’s Tour Championship.

She will tee it up in both events, alongside WA state mate Hira Naveed, who sits just outside the LPGA’s top 100 and is facing a desperate struggle to maintain her playing rights in her second season on the tour.

There are four events on the Ladies European Tour in September, offering WA pair Kirsten Rudgeley and Maddison Hinson-Tolchard (pictured above) the chance to consolidate their positions in the rankings.

With the top 72 in the standings reaching the tour finale in Spain, Rudgeley sits 33rd in the Order of Merit, with rookie Hinson-Tolchard 54th after some encouraging results over the European summer.

DP World Tour

Jason Scrivener

There are three events to look forward to in Europe this September, including the big-money Irish Open and PGA Championship, as well as the Open de France.

Just as is the case on the women’s tours, it’s game time for those with ambitions of reaching the tour playoffs in November, with only the top 70 qualifying for the HSBC Abu Dhabi Championship from November 6-9 and the top 50 going on to Tour Championship in Dubai a week later.

Mandurah favourite Jason Scrivener (pictured) is the leading WA golfer on the tour rankings in 58th position with a couple more decent finishes likely to be enough to punch his ticket to the Middle East.

Having played only seven counting events this season, Min Woo Lee is barely inside the top 150 of the rankings and in dire need of some strong finishes if he’s to reach the UAE playoffs. So far, he’s confirmed he’ll definitely play in the Open de France from Sept 18-21.

The top Aussie in the DP World Tour standings is reigning WA Open champion Elvis Smylie, in 22nd position at time of writing.

Amateur golf

Ella Scaysbrook

A relatively quiet month for top-level amateur golf in WA, the highlight is the Bowra & O’Dea Women’s Classic at Lake Karrinyup from September 1-3.

The WAGR event traditionally boasts one of the strongest fields of the season, with recent past winners including highly rated national talents Ella Scaysbrook (2024, pictured above) and Caitlin Pierce (2023). Abbie Teasdale was the last home winner back in 2022.
