An all-woman team introduced hundreds of girls to golf at the Junior Independent Girls Schools Sporting Association (JIGSSA) sports carnival.

GolfWA’s Grace Wood and Winni Lau were joined by PGA professional Georgia McSkimming (all pictured above) to deliver multiple sessions to more than 350 Year 4 students from Iona, MLC, Perth College, Penrhos, PLC, St Mary’s, St Hilda’s and Santa Maria.

As well as the fun of trying their hands at a variety of introductory golf drills, participants also received a pair of MyGolf-powered by Ripper GC sunglasses each.

It all added up to an extremely positive experience, according to Gemma De Knock, IGSSA WA’s Junior School Co-ordinator.

“Our Year 4 students relished the opportunity to learn new skills from some of Perth’s best women golfers,” she told GolfWA.

“They proudly modelled their sunglasses while building confidence and mastering their golf swing, making it a fun and memorable day.”

Marc Pike, GolfWA’s Participation Manager, added: “As well as being wonderful role models, Georgia, Grace and Winni all had excellent rapport with the students, giving them the best possible introduction to golf.

“A lot of the girls had never played golf before, so for them to immediately see that there are long-term career pathways for women in the sport is a very important step.”
