Round 2 Wrap – Drummond 54-Hole Junior Classic

17th Jul 2020

Collie Golf Club played host to Round 2 of the Drummond Golf 54-Hole Junior Classic, with ninety-five keen juniors braving some seriously wet and challenging conditions. Play was suspended for just under an hour, but undeterred and well-fed by the army of Collie volunteers, the keen juniors resumed play to close out some very impressive rounds.

Royal Fremantle’s Abbie Teasdale clung onto her lead by one stroke with Royal Perth’s Yeah-Jin Lee closing in with a solid two-under-par round. Lee would have been equal leader if not for a bogey the final hole after a drive right into a difficult ditch. Mount Lawley’s Ruby Fry gave some insight today into what she is capable of with a confident even-par score. We are set for an interesting final round with three strong ladies at the top end of the leaderboard.

Mount Lawley’s seventeen-year-old Jordan Jung has increased his impressive lead to five strokes after a solid second round of one-under-par. Jung didn’t falter, proving steady and consistent in the wild conditions. Joondalup’s Tom Addy matched Jung’s tally today to maintain his second position narrowly ahead of Mount Lawley’s young Joseph Buttress. Joe had been holding steady at 2 under but fell short on the challenging 7th hole at Collie Golf Club to bring him back to even par.

Jung goes into the into the final round at Sanctuary Golf Club on Friday with an impressive five-shot lead, whereas the girl’s competition is tight and with challenging conditions predicted the final day is set to be an exciting contest.

The Smarter than Smoking Junior tour were amazing in their determination and strength to master the greens and fairways at Collie Golf Club. A huge thanks to our parent volunteers and marshals for their support of our entry into golf program and our young participants for braving the weather today. You offer a fabulous glimpse into the future of golf in WA and we love your enthusiasm!

Play will commence today at 8.00 am with a shotgun start Sanctuary Golf Club and Resort, Bunbury.
