Junior golfer Allayna Engel’s commitment to the sport was recognised by her winning a prestigious award granted by the City of Kwinana.
Allayna, a 10-year-old member at Mandurah Country Club, was a nominee for a LYRiK Award in the Sport and Recreation Achievements category, and was named as one of three winners of the category at a special ceremony in late June.
Established in 2006, the LYRiK Awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of Kwinana’s young people aged between 10–24 years. Allayna was the youngest of all 39 award winners on the night.
As well as receiving a cash prize, Allayna was also invited to attend a Leadership Day in July. “We are very proud of Allayna and so happy for her,” said her father Adrian.
Allayna is a regular participant on the Crunch&Sip GolfWA Junior Tour and looks set for a bright future in the game. She was afforded the honour of striking the ceremonial opening tee shot at the 97th WA Open, which took place in April 2022.
