More than 100 girls were introduced to golf at a series of clinics across Western Australian clubs in April.
In support of the national MyGolf Girls Month, eight WA golf clubs from as far afield as Albany, Kalgoorlie and Geraldton welcomed girls aged 6-12 to give the game a go at the free, girls-only clinics.
The clinics proved to be such a hit that several clubs had to run additional sessions to meet demand. Amongst the highlights were: –
- Albany Golf Club welcomed 23 girls to their clinic
- Kalgoorlie Golf Course and Dunsborough Lakes Golf Club each hosted 15 participants
- Fremantle Public Golf Course introduced 16 girls to the game over two sessions
- Mount Lawley Golf Club engaged 14 players over two sessions

A total of 47 clubs and facilities from across Australia promoted the sport to young girls through free clinics in April, with 367 girls signing up nationwide.
To support the initiative, Golf Australia provided a $150 reimbursement to each participating club or facility to ensure the clinics could be offered free of charge.
With almost 30% of the nation’s participants hailing from Western Australia, Marc Pike, GolfWA’s Game Development Manager, praised the impact of the free sessions.
“We’re delighted that so many girls seized the opportunity to give golf a go in April, and we hope this is just the beginning of a long-term love of the game,” he said.
“The support we received from clubs both regionally and from the Perth metropolitan area was first-class and we will be looking to build on this success in the coming months.
“To that end, the participating WA clubs are all offering four-week, girls-only golf programs between April-June. The take-up levels have been extremely high – including those at regional clubs who have typically struggled to bring in junior girls as members.”
