Men’s Pennants: Round 6 Wrap

16th Jul 2018

It was always built as a tight season, and with one round to go the Men’s Division One Pennant finalists are far from decided.

The season will reach its penultimate round next weekend at Gosnells Golf Club with Lake Karrinyup, Mount Lawley and Royal Perth all still a realistic chance of finding themselves in the July 29 Final.

Throughout the entirety of the 2018 campaign 13 of the 18 matches played in the top division have been decided by the score line of 4-3, none of the teams have given an inch for the entire campaign.

Round 6 at Mount Lawley Golf Club was no different.

Lake Karrinyup landed a season defining blow against Royal Perth taking out one of the games of the year, 4-3. Despite the best efforts of a returning Fred Lee and consistent performers Adam Hatch and Michael Dennis Royal Perth couldn’t find a way.

Frazer Bone’s victory over Chris Mun on the 22nd hole essentially decided the fixture, with the bottom-half of Lake Karrinyup showing their class to clinch a vital result.

Gosnells have assured they will remain in Division 1 for another season after a crucial 4-3 win over Mandurah on Sunday. Leonard Math clinched a 19th hole triumph, while Gosnells’ bottom four all gained victories to move the side to three wins.

Joondalup won their first game of 2018 to take the relegation fight onto the last round, with themselves and Mandurah competing for the coveted sixth spot.

Ben Croft and Tom Addy were extremely impressive in the 4-3 win over Cottesloe, meaning a victory over Royal Perth next weekend could signify their safety.

Royal Fremantle will play in their second straight Division 2 Final after gathering an unattainable lead at the top.

Despite sharing the same points as Bunbury, Royal Fremantle’s ‘games for’ won’t be matched. Bunbury and Melville Glades will face off for a place in the final next weekend.

Hartfield claimed a valuable two points over Lakelands to push them closer to remaining in Division 2. The 4-3 win sees the side a game clear of the relegation zone with a game to play.

Hayden Hopewell capped off his stellar fortnight to lead Royal Fremantle to their fifth win of the season over title contenders Melville Glades. Reuben Darch and Fritz Arnold followed the lead of their no.1 with victories to secure a place in another final.

The Division 3 competition is set to come down to the wire with four teams still capable of finishing in a top two position.

Wanneroo and Rockingham both sit on equal points and equal games at the top of the ladder with a win for both in next week’s final round guaranteeing their place in the final.

Nedlands and Sea View trail the leaders by just two points with the aforementioned facing top-placed Wanneroo in the penultimate round.

Wanneroo, Nedlands and Rockingham all claimed convincing wins at Kwinana Golf Club on Sunday.

Royal Fremantle have carried their dominate club form into Division 4 South with the side booking their place in the final with a round remaining. Their opponent will be decided this weekend in the North competition between Royal Perth and Cottesloe.

Division 5 positions are in the balance with both the North and South Divisions incredibly tight with a round remaining.

Royal Fremantle and Bunbury look the most likely in the South Division; however Kwinana could spring a surprise with a big win over Hartfield.

Wanneroo, Mount Lawley and Chequers will battle it out for the finals spot in the North Division.

Hartfield have one foot in the Division 6 Final after remaining undefeated throughout the season, with their opponent set to be either Wanneroo or The Vines in the North Division.
