Great Southern Regional Roadshow a Tee-riffic success

26th Nov 2021

Between Monday the 1st of November and Sunday the 7th, Junior Development Officer Jordan McSkimming and Game Development & Performance Manager Marc Pike headed down to Albany to deliver our fourth Regional roadshow of the year after previously visiting Katanning, Geraldton and the Peel region.

Over 750 school kids in 5 days, two come & try events with promotion throughout the great southern that saw more than 40 kids attend and 5 kids signing on to further golf junior clinic hosted by PGA Pro Michael Draper is a great result for a program that continues to show the benefits of growing the game in these strong regional areas.

“The Albany Golf Club has had a long history of developing young golfers who have gone on to represent the State at various levels. Former tour players Wayne Smith and Rob Farley both began their journeys in Albany laying the foundations for successful careers.

The Management Committee of the Albany Golf Club are committed to supporting and nurturing the next generation of golfers. Over the past two years our Head Professional Michael Draper has taken over our junior program which has now grown to almost 30 male and female juniors participating each Sunday.

We see a strategic partnership with GolfWA essential to building on what we have already achieved with the goal of creating closer partnerships with local schools and having golf become a key part of their sporting programs”, added Daniel Northcott, General Manager of the Albany Golf Club.

“Golf WA would like to thank the support of Healthway to drive the Crunch & Sip Regional Roadshow. Not only do we get to promote and share our great game of golf to regional Western Australians, but we get to share and educate the benefits of healthy eating, hydration through sipping water over soft drinks and the importance of exercise and physical literacy for physical and mental wellbeing.”

We would like to thank the Great Southern community for having us including but not exclusive to Albany Golf Club, all the schools we visited, Chris Thompson and Mel Eastough at the DLGSC regional office and Dinah Gordon at the Great Southern Sports Talent Association. We are extremely excited to build our capacity to service and support participation growth and talent development in the region.
