Curtis Luck WA Open

WA crowd favourite Curtis Luck is the latest big name to be confirmed in the field for next week’s Bowra & O’Dea Nexus Advisernet WA Open at Mandurah Country Club.

The 28-year-old Cottesloe golfer won the WA Open as an amateur back in 2016 before claiming the US Amateur title the same year. He reached number one on the World Amateur Golf Rankings the following March and turned pro immediately after the 2017 US Masters.

Luck has spent much of his career playing on the Korn Ferry Tour in the US, where he has one title to his name at the 2020 Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship.

He made headlines closer to home again in November of last year when he aced the ‘party hole’ at Royal Queensland GC during the second round of the Australian PGA Championship en route to a top-five finish.

His 2024 season was derailed due to a serious shoulder injury, but Luck says he’s well down the road to recovery and raring to go in one of his favourite events on home soil.

“After being injured for the last four months, the WA Open sits at a perfect time to see how my rehab is progressing,” Luck told GolfWA.

“The WA Open was my first exposure to playing professional golf, so I’m looking forward to playing in it once again. It would be wishful thinking but fingers crossed I can repeat the 2016 result, this time a pro.”

Luck’s announcement comes hot on the heels of DP World Tour stars Jason Scrivener and Haydn Barron confirming their participation in the 100th staging of the championship – something that represents great news for WA golf fans, according to GolfWA Chief Executive Gary Thomas.

“We’re very fortunate to have players of the calibre of Curtis, Jason and Haydn playing in the WA Open this year,” he said. “All three are outstanding talents and I would urge golf fans to leap at this opportunity to see them in action up close at Mandurah Country Club.”

The Bowra & O’Dea Nexus Advisernet WA Open takes place at Mandurah Country Club from October 17-20. Spectators can attend for free. Full event details here.

The WA Open is the state’s oldest professional championship, which was first staged in 1913 and has a roll of Honour that includes Major winners Greg Norman, Kel Nagle, Gary Player and Ian Baker-Finch.

Not able to get to Mandurah to attend the event in person? No problem. You can tune in to live coverage of the championship on Foxtel and Kayo over the closing two rounds.
