Containers for Change has joined forces with GolfWA to become the official partner of the ‘Sticks for the Stix’ initiative.
Sticks for the Stix invites members of metropolitan golf clubs to turn in their pre-used clubs and equipment, which are then passed on and used to increase participation rates at regional clubs across WA.
The reuse of golf equipment aligns perfectly with Containers for Change, which runs WA’s container deposit scheme that has collected and recycled more than 5 billion drinks containers since 2020.
WA Return Recycle Renew Limited CEO Tim Cusack said: “As Scheme Coordinator for Containers for Change, the organisation is delighted to support a partnership that will deliver meaningful benefits for golf clubs and communities across Western Australia.
“We are proud to support the Sticks for Sticks program, which plays an important role in improving access to golf and creating more opportunities for Western Australians to participate in the sport.”
GolfWA’s Clubs & Facilities Manager Brett Symons (pictured above right with Containers for Change Head of Community & Partnerships, Tim Milroy) believes the partnership will make a tangible difference in growing participation rates in country WA.
“A lack of access to quality golf clubs and equipment is a significant barrier to people getting into golf in regional areas,” he said.
“The generous contributions we receive through Sticks for the Stix genuinely open doors for beginners of all ages to try golf – and hopefully build a life-long love of the sport.”
Making positive change at local level
Containers for Change also empowers golf clubs and facilities to recycle eligible drink containers, which can benefit both venues and the environment in meaningful ways.
“By activating Containers for Change across GolfWA’s network of affiliated clubs and facilities, we are making it easier for golfers to recycle their drink containers while directly supporting the clubs they love,” added Cusack.
“Through Containers for Change, we have seen firsthand the positive environmental, social, and fundraising outcomes that clubs can achieve through container collection.
“We look forward to working closely with GolfWA and its affiliated clubs to maximise the impact of this partnership, helping to strengthen local clubs, support community participation, and deliver lasting benefits for the WA golfing community.”
