Collier Park continuing to break down barriers

Collier Park’s latest initiative to break down barriers and empower new golfers has enjoyed a sell-out start after launching in March.

Devised and implemented by Collier Park’s resident PGA Associates Georgia McSkimming and Mai Julius, the ‘Take the Next Step’ program aims to give new golfers the confidence to get out on the fairways.

With a maximum group size of eight, attendees warm up on the range before taking to Collier Park’s short course to play four holes of twilight golf under the tutelage of Georgia and Mai, who offer technical guidance as well as pointers on course management and etiquette.

The experience closes with pizza, drinks and socialising at the Collier Cafe, with group members given the chance to grill Mai and Georgia about any aspect of the game.

From there, Collier Park’s Mandy Sudlow-Brown – a keen golfer herself –  organises social rounds and coordinates further tuition to ensure participants stay engaged and continue to build confidence.

With the first sessions all fully booked out, Collier Park GM Gemma Nicholson has praised the positive impact they’ve had on the attendees.

“We’re committed to building a space where new players, especially women, feel welcomed, supported, and inspired. The ‘Take the Next Step’ twilight event is a perfect example of this,” Nicholson told GolfWA.

“Golf can be intimidating at first, and programs like this can really break down barriers and help beginners transition from the range to the course with confidence.

“We’re incredibly proud of Mai, Georgia and Mandy for pulling this event series together,” Nicholson added. “Their enthusiasm is contagious beyond belief and we can already see lifelong friendships forming in the golfers that have attended.”

Collier Park’s next ‘Take the Next Step’ event will be in July. Email golf@collierpark.com.au for more information or to register your interest.
