2021 Country Week Silver Bronze ends on a high

4th Sep 2021

Welcoming hugs and smiles this week, as women from all over WA were reunited for the annual Drummond Golf Country Week competition.  Enjoyed by over 200 ladies from regional clubs in WA, the competition commenced on Wednesday with a Canadian Foursomes event, followed by two days of Bronze/Silver Stableford competition.

Enjoying the sunshine and magnificent views from the Mount Lawley terrace, the ladies shared some of their thoughts on their busy week.

“Country week is gorgeous – its not about the golf, it’s about the people.  So thankful for the time we have had on these amazing courses….we see so many familiar faces. It is one of my favourite weeks of the year!”

“Some of us have done five days, five courses if you include the Silver Spoon playoff, Jubilee Foursomes and the three days of Country Week.  The weather could have been better but we are grateful to have had the week on some magnificent courses with some great friends. It has finished on a high with conditions today.”

The Canadian Foursomes event was played on Wednesday with a huge field enjoying the golf across two metro courses.  Congratulations to Grass Green Champions Gillian Backhouse and Wannee Thagernsuk from Esperance Golf Club, who pipped Hopetoun’s Tove Guthrie and Pink Lake’s Lauren Heggie by three points at Kwinana GC.  Quairading’s Saron Richards and Di Wallwork were victorious in the Sand Greens Foursomes title, with Bolgart’s Serena Syred and Viv Camerer hot on their heels.

At Gosnells Golf Club, Susan Webb and Lianne Bolgar from Serpentine took out the Sand Green title, narrowly defeating Kerry Steike and Leanne Warren from Mount Barker.   Erica Hardy from Geraldton and Leanne Ettridge from Donnybrook won the Grass Green Title, with runners up Annette Harbron and Marion Nelson from Denmark.

Royal Perth Golf Club generously hosted the first day of Stableford competition on Thursday, with the ladies battling it out in challenging icy cold and wet conditions.  The large field were rewarded with blue skies for the final round at Mount Lawley Golf Club, resulting in some spectacular (and some not so) scores to end the fabulous week.

Congratulations to Viv Camerer from Bolgart, for the best 36 hole nett Sand Green score of 71, taking home the Gladys Hawkes Cup.  Bev Moxham from Spalding Park was victorious in the Country Bronze Championship Cup , with the best overall Bronze 36 hole gross.  Jill Hibben from Busselton won the Country Silver Tray, for the best overall silver 36 holes Nett, with Sharon Dawson from Denmark taking home the Country Championship Cup, for the best overall Silver Gross.

Congratulations to all participants and many thanks to our generous sponsors Drummond Golf for providing a wonderful selection of prizes for the ladies this week.

Wayne Tardrew from Drummond Golf Osborne Park shared , “You ladies are truly committed to have braved those conditions on Thursday.  There are some outstanding scores and it is  a pleasure to support this annual event.”
