The City of Stirling’s redevelopment of Hamersley Public Golf Course has taken a major gong at Urban Development Institute of Australia WA Awards for Excellence.

The $20m project was named as winner in the Social & Community Infrastructure category at the gala event held at Crown Perth in September.

The centerpiece of the redevelopment is a two-story driving range featuring ball-tracking technology and simulation gaming. Meanwhile, a new pavilion with a pro shop and a community-friendly bar, restaurant and function space for 500 people were also key features of the project.

The redevelopment, completed in December of last year, was praised by judges for setting a benchmark for community-focused public infrastructure.

“This project is more than a standard golf course. It’s a vibrant community hub where people of all ages can come together to meet and connect,” the UDIA WA judges stated.

“It redefines what a golf course can be, bringing a broader audience to the sport and offering a family destination.”

This latest accolade follows a string of recent honours for the Hamersley Public Golf Course redevelopment, including: —

  • 2025 National Awards for Local Government: Winner of the Productivity through Infrastructure category
  • 2025 Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia WA Excellence Awards: Winner of three prizes, including the Local Government Engineering Excellence Award

City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin expressed his pride in the project’s success, saying: “This latest recognition is another reminder that when we think big and aim high, we can deliver exceptional infrastructure for our community.

“The redevelopment transformed a tired venue into a modern and incredibly popular destination for families and golfers alike.”

Since its opening, the venue has recorded 365,000 visits, with approximately 10 million balls hit at the 30-bay driving range, making it the busiest range in the world on a bay-for-bay basis.
