Applications are now open for the 2026 GolfWA Talent Development Program (TDP).
Aimed at juniors aged 12-17, the annual program focuses on developing golfers who are eligible for future junior state teams.
Over five sessions between July and November, the TDP offers optimal training environments where players can test themselves against the state’s best junior prospects under the guidance of PGA-qualified coaches.
There is also a focus on off-course areas of the game, with expert-led workshops on practical skills, strength and conditioning, recovery, nutrition, psychology, values, integrity and teamwork.
The TDP will have two tiers based on age and ability, and a maximum number of 72 athletes (36 in each tier) will be selected. Juniors already named in GolfWA’s Talent Identification and High Performance programs for 2026 do not need to apply.
Expectations of applicants
- Must show aspirations to develop their golfing capacity on and off the course including strength and conditioning, physio screening, golf mindset, nutrition and wellbeing, career pathways
- Must continually demonstrate expected behaviours of integrity, commitment, and respect for golf and the wider community
- Prospective athletes must have a handicap and are expected to have played a significant amount of golf and be committed to pursuing golf in the long term
- Before applying, prospective athletes are expected to have spoken to their coach and received their approval that they are ready for this level of program
- It is anticipated that prospective athletes will be regularly competing in Junior Open events
Selection criteria
- Turning 12 years old (or older) in each year of selection, or turning 18 after April 30, 2027, to be eligible for the 2027 Junior Interstate Teams Matches
- 2025/26 Junior Stroke Averages, Crunch&Sip Junior Tour Averages, GA Handicaps, Paxton and Ivey Temperley Stroke Averages (where applicable)
- Athletes must uphold the GolfWA Athlete Code of Conduct in all events, past and upcoming
Applications are open until 5pm on Monday, June 8. Athletes will be notified of their selection by Friday, June 12.
