Perth’s booming off-course golfing landscape has a new player following the opening of Always Golf.
Located just a bombed drive away from Royal Fremantle’s historic layout, Always Golf offers 24-hour access to two spacious TrackMan simulators, as well as a golf-specific fitness gym.
The brainchild of 23-year-old Max McCole (pictured above), Always Golf has made a fast start since opening, with 100 members already on its books.
A keen golfer himself and a member of Royal Fremantle, McCole hailed the community spirit already in evidence at the venue.
“It does feel like a real community,” he told GolfWA. “Before opening, you always hope that will be the case, but you never know for sure how it’ll work out.
“The members are very quickly getting to know each other. They say hello, grab a coffee together, sit and chat. It’s great to see, and the place already has a real golf club feel to it.”
Born out of his own frustrations at trying to fit golf practice into a busy routine, McCole says Always Golf is tailored to the needs of today’s workforce and family dynamics.
“I know from experience that after a busy day, getting home, showering, eating and changing, it’s a struggle to get to the range or course for any meaningful practice,” he said.
“You’re never going to get better at golf by doing that, which is really frustrating. That’s why so many golfers stay at the same handicap for 10 or 20 years.
“The way I see it, it’s not about making your life fit around your hobbies — it’s about making your hobbies fit around your life. If Always Golf can make it easier for a few people to do that, then I’ve done my job.”
The facility’s in-house gym was designed to complement the simulator experience, allowing members to enhance their golf game and physical performance in one place.
“With the simulators and the gym here, you’re killing two birds with one stone,” McCole added. “You can get your practice in and build your fitness under one roof at a time that suits you,” McCole added.
Looking ahead, McCole hopes to expand the Always Golf concept across Western Australia, bringing the same accessible, community-driven model to more golfers as soon as possible.
While it’s a case of so far, so good for Always Golf, when it comes to defining what success looks like, McCole is keeping it simple.
“It’s really just to keep on making sure my members are happy and enjoying the space,” he said. “That’s as successful as I can be.”
Always Golf memberships are available with no lock-in contracts, and free 1-hour trial sessions are available for those wanting to experience the space firsthand, with bookings made via the Always Golf website.
