Shelley Beardsmore has joined the GolfWA team with a remit to grow the sport in WA’s South West and Peel regions.
Bunbury-based Beardsmore (pictured) has been appointed as GolfWA’s new Regional Participation Officer – Peel and South West, taking up the role in January.
She brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously worked in participation and game development roles at WA Football, Netball WA and Rugby League WA.
Her role — made possible thanks to Regional Service Grant funding — will focus on boosting participation rates through delivery of the MyGolf and Get Into Golf national programs for juniors and adults; MyGolf in Schools; TeeMates Tour competitions; and golf activations at community events.
A self-confessed sport addict, Beardsmore is a relatively recent convert to golf but has already taken up membership at Capel Golf Club and says she’s looking forward to making an impact in her new role.
“I’ve been more of a social golfer in the past but am really enjoying playing a bit more seriously now and seeing the benefits golf can offer, both physically and mentally,” she said.
“Being able to showcase that golf can be a sport for everyone and helping to grow that market in this new role is an exciting prospect for me.”
Marc Pike, GolfWA’s Participation Manager, added: “Shelley’s track record in delivering participation programs across a range of sports means she will be a huge asset to our team.
“Creating more opportunities for more people to get into golf wherever they are based is fundamental to what we do at GolfWA, and Shelley’s presence in Peel and the South West will have a very real impact in doing that.”
Clubs and schools interested in connecting with Shelley to discuss opportunities can email her directly.
