Jamaican international golfer Winni Lau has joined GolfWA as our new Junior Development Officer.

Nineteen-year-old Lau (pictured) will work alongside Jordan McSkimming to deliver MyGolf in Schools and the Crunch&Sip Junior Tour series.

A golfer since the age of six, Lau first represented the Jamaica before her 10th birthday and played for both the junior and senior women’s teams.

Amongst her many achievements was being part of the winning Jamaican team at the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship in Turks & Caicos in 2022, while Lau was also named as the Caribbean Golfer of the Year in 2021, aged 15.

As well as playing to a high-level in her homeland, Lau coached for the Jamaican Golf Association and was instrumental in inspiring numerous high school colleagues to get into golf.

Lau will balance her GolfWA duties with studying for a degree in Finance and Data Science at UWA and says she is relishing the prospect of making an impact in her new role.

“I’ve only just started, but I love getting out to the schools with Jordan and seeing all the great things that are happening in junior golf in WA,” she said.

“I’m passionate about making golf as engaging and entertaining as possible for teenagers and little kids and I’m very excited to be able to bring that into this role.”

Welcoming Lau to the role, Jordan McSkimming said: “Winni is a very talented golfer and a very engaging personality, so I have no doubt she will be extremely popular with our junior golfers and make a lasting impression on them.”
