Back-to-back hole-in-one heroics at Miling GC

Miling holes-in-one

Lightning struck twice in a matter of minutes at Miling Golf Club where two golfers from consecutive groups holed their tee shots at the same hole.

The scene of the spellbinding action was Miling GC’s par-three 2nd hole, and it was home-club member Natham Turner (above right), who achieved the first ace of the day when he slammed home his tee shot from 147 metres.

It was the first hole-in-one of Natham’s career, but if the six-handicapper thought he’d be able to annex bragging rights for the day he was mistaken, as Wendy Woods (above left) matched his achievement playing in the very next group.

Capel Golf Club member Wendy was visiting the club as part of the annual GolfWA RV Tour and had endured a tough day after starting her round at the 10th.

In her own words, Wendy had ‘hit every tree on the course’ during her opening 10 holes and had amassed only five Stableford points off her 17 handicap.

Miling’s 2nd (her 11th), therefore, proved to be quite the balm for the beleaguered Wendy, who hit a rare straight one and watched with disbelief as it disappeared into the hole for the second ace of her career.

“I wasn’t confident on the tee with all the trees lining the hole, but I had a lovely strike, the ball soared onto the green and took a lovely straight roll straight into the hole,” she said.

The four points Wendy earned almost doubled her score for the round and she subsequently amassed 18 Stableford points on her back nine for a 21-point total that ensured she avoided the NAGA.

GolfWA has been reliably informed that both Wendy and Natham’s successes were enthusiastically celebrated by the RV Tour attendees and the Miling members present on the day – no small wonder when the last hole-in-one recorded at the course came way back in 2014.
