WA junior golf stars Josiah Edwards and Spencer Harrison have been selected to represent Australia in a Ryder Cup-style match against the United States National Junior Team.

The talented duo were named in a 12-strong Australia team that will travel to Wisconsin to tackle their US counterparts at SentryWorld Golf Course on July 1-2.

A World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR)-sanctioned event, the mixed-format match will feature 12 players representing each nation with foursomes and fourball on day one and singles matches on day two.

Gosnells GC member Edwards, aged 17, is the reigning Australian Boys Order of Merit champion, who captained the WA team in April’s Junior Interstate Teams Matches.

Harrison, meanwhile, has enjoyed something of a meteoric rise in the past 12 months with highlights including reaching the final of the WA Amateur Championship in March and finishing third in the Australian Boys Amateur a month later. At the time of writing, the Royal Perth member leads the 2024  Australian Boys Order of Merit.

They will line-up alongside several of Australia’s most highly regarded rising stars, including recent Australian Junior Amateur winners Samuel Cascio and Shyla Singh, as well as established Australian internationals Ella Scaysbrook and Sarah Hammet.

The US team, meanwhile will be composed of the top six male and top six female junior golfers on the US National Junior Team based on their WAGR ranking.

Marc Pike, GolfWA’s Game Development & High Performance Manager, says that international recognition for Edwards and Harrison is richly deserved.

“We are proud of Josiah and Spencer’s hard work and accomplishments to attain these selections,” he said. “It is a testament to their talent and ability, and the strength and depth of golf in WA.

“They are both becoming role models for the next generation of junior golfers. We wish them well for their Australian debuts and look forward to continuing to support them on their golfing journeys.”

Edwards has also been selected as one of eight players to represent Australia in the IMG Academy Junior World Championships from July 9-11.

First contested in 1968, the Junior World Championship is the largest event of its kind on the global calendar, with more than 1200 golfers aged between 7-18 competing each year.

Multiple California golf courses host the tournament, with the 15-18-year-old age group playing at the world-renowned Torrey Pines Golf Course, which has twice hosted the US Open.
