In the first of a new series, GolfWA caught up with Theo Reeves, the eight-year-old Bunbury Golf Club prodigy already being tipped for big things.
Theo is a regular participant in the Fuel to Go & Play TeeMates Tour, winning the 9-Hole Tiger Tees Order of Merit in 2025.
Beyond that, Theo has twice won his age group at the Australian Junior Age Division Golf Championships (most recently in April 2026) and is the reigning US Kids Golf Australian Challenge Champion in his age group.
The latter feat earned Theo a trip to the US Kids World Golf Tournament at Pinehurst in North Carolina in July, where he finished 14th in a field of 103 golfers.

Theo, you play a number of sports to a high standard, but what is special about golf?
I love golf because of chipping and putting and watching the ball disappear into the hole. I have also made lots of friends from all over the world that I get to have fun with. I love playing different courses and travelling with my family.
What are your best experiences in golf so far?
Travelling to Pinehurst to compete in the US Kids World Championships! We stay in a cool house that is full all golf stuff and our backyard is Pinehurst No 3. It’s such a cool place and I love seeing the Putter Boy statue each year.
We also travel to Palm Springs each year, which is very hot and our house has a pool and is on the Palm Valley Country Club golf course. When I’m in Perth, I get to play golf with my coach Brett Rumford, which is so fun. I also won the Australian Junior Age Division Golf Championships twice in the Gold Coast, which I’m very proud of.
What do you most enjoy about playing on the TeeMates Tour?
The TeeMates Tour lets me play on lots of different courses, including amazing places like Lake Karrinyup Country Club. Playing at lots of different courses is challenging because of all the different layouts, greens and bunkers. You must play different shots, and it makes me think a lot. I also get to make new friends each time. It’s really fun and welcoming, and I always look forward to playing.
Why would you recommend other children give golf a try if they haven’t already done so?
Because you have to concentrate and work hard to get it right, but when you do that it’s the best feeling in the world.
How do you ensure you’re fuelled up on course to play your best golf?
My mum packs my food for practice and competitions. I always have some fruit and healthy snacks that keep me fuelled up. I always take my water bottle as well and when it’s hot, I make sure I drink lots.
If you’re keen to get your kids into competitive golf in a fun and welcoming environment, the Fuel to Go & Play TeeMates Tour is the idea starting point. Find out more here.
