Pebble Beach awaits Hinson-Tolchard

Maddison Hinson-Tolchard has continued her stunning season after qualifying for her first U.S Girls’ Junior in Wisconsin on Thursday.

The 16-year-old was in supreme touch throughout her round, firing a three-under-par 67 to finish as the top qualifier from 35 girls.

The Australian Junior Champion will join several other Australian’s at Pebble Beach in California for the illustrious event beginning July 16.

The Gosnells product was thrilled to qualify for the major event after setting herself several goals prior to leaving for the US.

“The feeling is unreal,” Hinson-Tolchard explained

“It was my goal when I came over here, so I am so excited now that it’s happened.”

Hinson-Tolchard set her round alight early with three consecutive birdies in the opening nine holes, before a birdie on 18 secured top spot.

“I played really steady all day, birdied early and despite a bogey on 16, I was able to finish off strong on the last,” she said.

Despite the strong field Hinson-Tolchard was purely focused on shooting as low as possible, with the course suiting areas of her game.

“I wanted to give myself the best possible chance of qualifying with the field being so strong,” she mentioned.

“The course was very similar to back home, extremely open and wide meaning you weren’t penalised for missing fairways.”

The WA Girls’ State Captain will now travel to California, still pinching herself at the chance to play at Pebble Beach.

“I am super pumped to play there (Pebble Beach), it’s really exciting,” she exclaimed.

“I’m just going to go over there and stick to my game and enjoy the experience.”
