How playing nine holes could win you a trip to The Open

Play 9

The ‘Play 9’ initiative is back for 2024, giving everyday golfers the chance to contest the international final at Royal Troon in the week of The Open Championship.

An initiative of The R&A and Golf Australia, Play 9 offers golfers a possible dream ticket to The Open by playing in a nine-hole competition at any golf club or facility across the country from February 26 to April 29

Anyone who plays in any official Play 9 event automatically enters the prize draw. Golfers can play in as many nine-hole competitions as they like, with each round counting as an entry into the competition.

More than 120,000 nine-hole rounds were held across 840 facilities during last year’s three-month campaign period, with Tasmanian golfers Erin Delpizzo (Ulverstone Golf Club) and David Baker (Wynyard Golf Club) representing Australia in the international Play 9 final at Royal Liverpool. Winners also receive tickets to The Open Championship itself.

Any club or facility that runs public access competition play is an option for participants. To be eligible, players must have a Golf Australia Handicap and a Golf Australia account. Full T&Cs can be found here.
