Historic hat-trick for unstoppable Green

Hannah Green WPGA Championship

Hannah Green extended her remarkable winning streak in 2026 to three in three starts after a compelling victory at the Australian WPGA Championship.

In doing so, the world number seven became the first Australian women’s golfer to win three successive international tournaments.

On the back of consecutive wins at the Women’s World Championship in Singapore and the women’s Australian Open in Adelaide, Green was the red-hot favourite for the WPGA Championship on the Gold Coast.

The 29-year-old was a fixture at the top of the leaderboard all week and led by two strokes after 36 and 54 holes.

Her nearest challenger on the final day was South African Casandra Alexander, but Green accelerated away from her rival thanks to a blistering start.

Three birdies in a row from the 2nd saw Green’s advantage stretch to six, but two bogeys and two scrappy pars in her next four holes opened the door for her challengers.

At that stage, Germany’s Alexander Forsterling was only two strokes back – but that was as close as anyone would get.

Showing typical composure, Green completed her final 10 holes in one under par to close with a three-under-par 69. Her 16-under-par total was enough for a four-stroke victory ahead of Alexander and Forsterling.

“I didn’t really know how I was going to perform this week, to be honest,” said a delighted Green. “In the past, when I have won, I haven’t come into tournaments with much form and it’s hard to back up a win, especially at home after the Aussie Open.”

Of her hat-trick of victories, Green added: “It’s been a really crazy month, but it feels amazing and it’s been really special to be able to do that in Australia.”

It was also a good week for WA’s Maddison Hinson-Tolchard, who closed with a best-of-the-day five-under-par 67 to move up into a share of ninth place alongside Australia’s LPGA Tour veteran Sarah Kemp at seven-under-par.
