Cobra Puma Junior Championships

5th Jul 2019

Western Australia’s brightest young golfing stars will next week take to the fairways of Royal Perth Golf Club, South Perth in search of the Cobra Puma Junior Championship title.

The GolfWA flagship junior event boasts an honour board that reads like a whos-who of Western Australian golfing royalty. Names recognised worldwide such as Minjee Lee, Min Woo Lee and Curtis Luck are just a few of the past champions of this long-running event first established in 1980.

More recently the tournament has paved the way to Major success. 2019 KPMG Women’s PGA Champion, Hannah Green won the title in 2013.

In the lead up to the tournament, three of WA’s up and coming talents took the opportunity to preview the prestigious Royal Perth course and test some of the latest apparel from tournament major partner, Puma.

Royal Perth Golf Club General Manager Brad Dawson said their members were excited to host the tournament this year.

“Juniors are the future of our club and every opportunity is taken to welcome both girls and boys to our course. We look forward to seeing some quality golf during the week and are excited to invite members of our community to visit,” Brad said.

As captain of the Como Golf Academy squad, Jordan Jung will be looking to add his name to the honour board off the back of an impressive season to date.

Jung impressed earlier this year at the Australian Boys’ Interstate Series where he finished undefeated in his individual matches. The impressive Mount Lawley Golf Club youngster was also named in the Men’s Interstate Team that travelled to Tasmania.

Joondalup Country Club member, Carter Mealing was a teammate of Jung’s also competing at the Boys’ Interstate Series.

The former teammates will soon face-off as competitors with Mealing posing a genuine threat to Jung’s run at the 2019 Cobra Puma Junior Championship title.

15-year old Mai Julius is another impressive Como Golf Academy talent, looking to make her mark on the junior circuit.

Mai is a member at Melville Glades Golf Club and a strong result in this year’s tournament will go a long way in cementing herself as a name to watch.

Royal Perth Golf Club local, Yeah-Jin Lee looks set to be the girl to beat in this year’s tournament. Yeah-Jin represented WA in both the Girls’ and Women’s Interstate Series earlier in the year.

The benefit of a home course advantage and a strong season to date have Yeah-Jin primed to add her name to this illustrious honour board.

GolfWA is excited to partner with Cobra Puma Golf Australia for this significant junior tournament. Cobra Puma is a progressive and innovative company and GolfWA looks forward to working alongside them moving forward.

Royal Perth Golf Club will be open to all spectators and supporters on July 8 and 9. You are invited to witness the next wave of WA golfers in action. You never know when you might be watching a future Major Champion in action.
