Royal Fremantle’s amateur sensation Abbie Teasdale leads the way after Round 1 of the Concord Cup in Sydney – helped in no small measure by a hole-in-one.

Teasdale fired a six-under-par round of 68 at Concord Golf Club, the pièce de résistance coming at the par-3 14th when she aced out with a nine iron from 115 metres. It was the second hole-in-one Teasdale has recorded in competition and the third overall in her career.

This was supplemented by birdies at the 4th, 7th, 8th and 15th holes to leave Teasdale one shot clear of home club favourite Belinda Ji at the end of R1. You can view the leaderboard here.

Teasdale has every incentive to do well as the Concord Cup is a Golf Australia and World Amateur Golf Ranking event, with the winner securing a spot in the field for the WPGA Tour’s NSW Open in March.

Her impressive first round follows on from Teasdale’s strong finish in last weekend’s Women’s Vic Open on the WPGA Tour, when she fired a final-round 72 in tricky conditions to climb 14 places up the leaderboard and finish T20th. She was also named in the Australia team to contest the Women’s Amateur Asia Pacific in Singapore in early March.
