Luck surges into WA Open contention

16th Oct 2026

Curtis Luck WA Open

Curtis Luck is well placed to make a WA Open weekend charge after a four-under-par 68 in his second round at Secret Harbour today.

The Cottesloe golfer – and 2016 WA Open champion – mixed four birdies and an eagle with two bogeys to move to -7 for the championship.

It leaves Luck in a share of 5th place, just three strokes behind co-leaders Oliver Bekker and Todd Sinnott.

After matching the course record with a sublime 65 yesterday, defending champion Bekker carded a three-under-par 69 today, while Victorian Sinnott returned a bogey-free 68.

The pair sit a stroke clear of NSW’s Lachlan Chamberlain, with Darcy Brereton (VIC) in outright 4th at -8.

Teeing off at the head of the afternoon field, Luck made a fast start to his round, going birdie-par-eagle to spring up the leaderboard.

He added two more birdies before his first dropped shot of the day at the par-four ninth, but moved back to -8 after draining a long birdie putt from the fringe on 11.

That was as good as it got for Luck, though, as he failed to capitalise on some superb tee shots and beautifully controlled irons in the brisk afternoon breeze.

A poor approach cost him a dropped shot at the short, par-four 15 but he scrambled well coming home to ensure he remains within touching distance of the leaders heading into the weekend.

Local stars struggle to make their mark

It was a less heartening day for the wider West Aussie contingent, though, with only six of the 25 WA players making the cut, which fell at level par.

Haydn Barron hit a fine 69 to move to T18th at -3 overall, where he sits alongside Jordan Jung, who is making an assured pro debut after relinquishing his amateur status earlier in the week.

Jordan Doull is a stroke further back in T26th, while Connor McKinney and Adam Brady are part of a large group at -1.

Despite being well placed after rounds of 69 yesterday, 2020 champion Hayden Hopewell and amateur Josiah Edwards fell away to miss the cut.

Spencer Harrison WA Open

Spencer Harrison had an eventful day that featured a hole-in-one and five birdies

Eighteen-year-old Royal Perth amateur Spencer Harrison had an eventful day, carding five birdies and a hole-in-one at the 7th in a round of 70.

It wasn’t enough to get him into the weekend, however, following an uncharacteristic seven-over-par 79 on Day 1.

Jarryd Felton, meanwhile, was forced to withdraw halfway through his second round with a back injury.
