WA state golfer George Barclay has added another significant state title to his resumé at the Queensland Men’s Stroke Play Championship.
The Joondalup golfer added to the WA and Victorian Men’s Amateur Championships he won in 2024 and 2025 as he held his nerve to post a one-stroke victory at Beerwah Golf Club.
Barclay had led the 54-hole competition after two rounds but was pegged back at the start of his closing 18 as he bogeyed the 2nd to fall into a share of the lead.
With top amateurs Kade Bryant (SA), Jonty Lunson (Tas) and Max Moring (Vic) breathing down his neck, Barclay showed great resolve to birdie the 8th and reach the turn at level par.
A further birdie at 14 was offset by a dropped shot at the next, but 21-year-old Barclay showed great bouncebackability to pick up a further shot at the 16th.
It proved crucial as Bryant carded back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17 to move within a stroke of Barclay’s lead and when both players bogeyed the last, the title was heading west.
Barclay’s seven-under-par three-round total gave him a one-stroke victory ahead of Bryant and fast-finishing fellow Victorian Fraser Anderson. NSW’s Rachel Lee won the concurrent women’s championship.

Stroke play victory made Barclay the top seed of the 16 golfers who qualified to contest the QLD Men’s Amateur Championship match play rounds, but his bid to complete a famous double fell short.
After defeating fellow Western Australian Zach Capelli 3&2 in the Round of 16, Barclay came unstuck against rising QLD star Harrison Gomez in the quarter finals, ultimately losing at the third extra hole.
