Twenty of the state’s most promising junior golfers have been called up to the GolfWA Talent Identification Program.
Ranging in age from 14 to 17, the lineup consists of 10 boys and 10 girls, with a total of nine different clubs represented.
The group forms part of the fourth tier of the Golf Australia High Performance Program, and participants will attend monthly training sessions with WA state coaches Jess Speechley and Luke Gerrard.
As well as skills exercises, each session will feature workshops covering a variety of topics, including physiotherapy, strength and conditioning, psychology, nutrition and club fitting, all presented by experts in their fields.
“We see this group as an important part of the future of golf, both in our state and nationally,” said GolfWA High Performance Manager Rick Kulacz.
“Players have been selected not only with current performance in mind, but also with a focus on future potential, development and growth as we look to maximise the potential of these young golfers in the coming years.”
Nine out of the 10 members of WA’s team for the upcoming Junior Interstate Teams Matches are in the squad, with the exception of Royal Perth’s Spencer Harrison, who will be part of a higher tier of athletes within the national High Performance Program.
GolfWA also runs the Talent Development Program, which provides additional training opportunities for a broader range of junior golfers throughout the year.
