Nicole Martino has been appointed as General Manager of Wembley Golf Course by the Town of Cambridge, commencing the role in mid January.
A former touring professional and two-time WA Women’s Amateur Champion, Martino joins Wembley following a successful four-year stint as Golf Manager at The Western Australian Golf Club.
It represents a happy homecoming for Martino, whose first job in golf came as a casual employee at Wembley Golf Course in 2009, prior to commencing her PGA traineeship.
In addition to her time at WAGC, her industry experience also includes six years as a Golf Operations Assistant at Marangaroo Golf Course, and administrative roles at both Golf Management Australia and the PGA of Australia.
Martino currently serves on the PGA of Australia Vocational Members Council and was named the 2023 WA PGA Management Professional of the Year after earning the Certified Club Manager designation from the Club Management Association of America.
“My very first job in golf was at Wembley and I got to know a lot of staff across both golf and food and beverage side of the business,” said Martino.
“Coming back, it was incredible to see how many familiar faces are still here and it’s really nice to be able to make this career step at a facility that feels familiar, comfortable and friendly, but also is such a powerhouse in the industry that offers so much to the golf and local community.”
Golf has boomed since Martino was first employed at Wembley GC, with the venue now hailed as one of the premier public golf experiences in the entire country.
Martino has no intentions of taking this success for granted, though, and says she’s aiming to take the customer experience to the next level.
“There’s a lot more competition coming into the market, so to continue to be considered as one of the best public courses in Perth we need to ensure that the service and facilities we’re providing are top class and people enjoy all aspects of their visit when they come here.
“My focus is going to be on making sure that the customer experience is positive, as well as increasing the brand and marketing of the facility so that more people know who we are and what we offer.
“From mini golf to club fittings and a place for social gatherings, Wembley really can be a one-stop shop for the whole family.”
“The Town of Cambridge is pleased to welcome back a leader with deep knowledge of the game and proven commercial skills,” added Mayor Gary Mack.
“We look forward to Nicole’s leadership as Wembley Golf Course enters its next phase of growth and community participation.”
