History was made twice at the latest Pinjarra GC club championships, with the oldest and youngest women’s champions on record being crowned.
At one end of the scale, 15-year-old Hayley Rasmussen became the club’s youngest-ever women’s champion as she romped to victory in the A Grade.
Hayley, a participant in GolfWA’s Talent Development Program, fired rounds of 85, 88 and 90 to clinch her first A Grade Championship by an impressive five-stroke margin.
If Hayley continues her upwards trajectory she could annex the title for years to come, but she still has a long way to go to match the achievements of evergreen clubmate Valerie Winfield.
Just a month shy of her 90th birthday, Valerie became Pinjarra GC’s oldest women’s champion as she claimed the B Grade title after rounds of 100, 101 and 92.
Valerie’s most recent success adds to her collection of 7 A Grade Club Championship wins in 1994, 1998, 1999, 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2018.
Club General Manager Mitchell Sheather paid tribute to the two record breakers, saying: “Everyone at Pinjarra GC is delighted for Hayley and Valerie, who are very worthy winners.
“It’s incredible to think that there are 75 years between them, but their successes prove once again that age is just a number.”
