Play Well golf programs

A new series of free beginners’ golf programs at facilities across Perth has been a smash hit, with 90% of places filling within two days of release.

Thanks to support from the Australian Sports Commissions’ Play Well initiative, GolfWA arranged 25 four-week programs across 10 clubs and facilities — with more on the way.

The supporting facilities include traditional member clubs and public courses, as well as off-course venues Pin High in Osborne Park and X-Golf in Rockingham.

Aimed at complete beginners — both adults and juniors — more than 300 places were available in the first wave of programs, with the vast majority of them being snapped up within 48 hours of registrations opening, driven by social media marketing campaigns.

The positive take-up indicates the appetite for golf continues to grow, something that GolfWA Participation Manager Marc Pike believes augurs well for the long-term health of the sport in WA.

“The fantastic level of registrations clearly demonstrates the demand for programs of this nature in metropolitan communities, and we will be looking to build on this in the coming months,” he said.

“The Play Well initiative enables more people from different demographics to engage in golf. This includes a focus on raising participation levels for women and juniors, removing barriers and making pathways into the game more readily available.

“We’re delighted to offer programs at both off-course and on-course facilities, which align to the changing landscape of where golf can be played. We’re grateful for the support of all these facilities and excited to see what they can achieve.”

Several Play Well golf programs will be staged at non-traditional, off-course golf facilities
