Nine West Aussies make it through WA Open Pre-Q

13th Oct 2025

2025 WA Open

Nine WA players – including six amateurs – were amongst the dozen golfers who successfully negotiated WA Open Pre-Qualifying today.

A field of 96 teed up at Mount Lawley GC in the hope of earning a precious spot in the Nexus Advisernet Bowra & O’Dea WA Open field alongside the likes of Marc Leishman.

With only 12 spaces up for grabs, the 18-hole shootout was always likely to be a tight contest and so it proved with only five players breaking par around Mount Lawley’s testing, revamped set-up.

American Kameron Williams led home the field with a blistering six-under-par 66 that left him two clear of Victorian Max Charles and Secret Harbour GC’s Zimbabawe-born club pro Dale Howie.

Sharing 4th place were Royal Fremantle amateur Zach Capelli and Blaike Perkins (NSW), while five more WA golfers shared sixth to safely progress to the main event after level-par rounds.

These were amateurs Michael Hanrahan Smith (Cottesloe GC), Ronan Nayar (Joondalup CC), Liam Sullivan (The Vines) and Jordan Jung (Royal Perth), as well as pro Adam Hatch (Royal Fremantle).

Zach Capelli was one of six WA amateurs to come through pre-qualifying

A four-way playoff was required to determine the final two spots in the field, with WA trio John Boulton (Perth Golf Centre), amateur Jakeb Dunkley (Rockingham GC) and Shaun Malone (Gosnells GC) tying with Victoria’s Jake Hughes at +1.

Ultimately, it was Boulton and Dunkley who prevailed to take their places in the 132-strong field for the WA Open, which begins on Thursday.
