WA Golf Foundation in Derby – Rob & Chook’s adventure underway

29th Apr 2021

Golf WA’s own Ian “Chook” Fowler is currently touring the north on a fantastic teaching adventure with PGA Professional Coach Rob Farley. Ian, North Regional Development Officer for Golf WA arrived all smiles at The Boab Golf Course in Derby yesterday to commence four days of coaching alongside expert Rob Farley.

The WA Golf Foundation have made this tour possible by providing funding to facilitate experts such as Ian and Rob visiting remote regional areas. Derby Golf Club have welcomed the team to introduce golf and grow participation levels in their local sporting community. The aim is to introduce teens and juniors to the sport, and encourage these age groups to enjoy and engage.

“What an absolutely wonderful bunch of kids,” shared Fowler after today’s opening session. “Many had excellent hand-eye coordination, which Rob masterfully turned into magnificent golf swings.” Today is only Day 1 of an extensive programme in the north. We will be following “Chook and Rob’s Adventures” on our social media feed, and their introduction of the game to teens and the local indigenous community in the North West.

Derby Golf Club President, Kerry Leamy, warmly welcomed the team to Derby Sports Club and hope the boys enjoyed a meal at the Sportie’s Bar. “The menu is fantastic and we can’t wait for tomorrow.”
