Lakelands awaits the Senior Amateur Championship

2nd Apr 2022

On Monday the 4th of April The State Senior Amateur Championships of WA gets underway at the Lakelands Country Club.

This year’s competition has attracted competitors from all over Australia including Australia’s top female senior amateur Sue Wooster (The National Golf Club) and Ken Brewer (Newcastle Golf Club). Local favourites will be defending champion Michael Lucas who won by 13 shots from Ken last year at Gosnells Golf Club and Carmen Palframan (Lake Karrinyup) who won from Peta Roberts (Lake Karrinyup).

The tournament is 54-hole stroke play where players need to be 55yrs+ as at first day of the Championship and have a GA handicap 16 and lower for the men and 21 and lower for the women.

Lakelands Country Club lies half an hour’s drive from Perth city centre in the northern suburb of Gnangara, close to the sparkling waters of Lake Gnangara.

Murray Paul, General Manager at Lakelands Country Club said the 7th is their feature hole, “it is a short par 3 over water and the way the green is designed it brings the water into play even though you are probably only hitting wedge, it isn’t far from the clubhouse, and you can watch people hit it into the water all day”.

For those wanting to relax to enjoy the golf you can place yourself under the new balcony at the clubhouse and watch competitors play the short par 5 18th hole. Murray said this provides lots of entertainment as there are always plenty of birdies and eagles on offer.

The difficult hole to watch is the par four 3rd hole due to its length and the fiddly nature of the green with its three different levels means you are always happy to walk off with a par.

Overall, Lakelands will test the mettle of the players over the three days. We look forward to seeing you there if you are playing or watching from April 4 – 6 2022.
