Junior golfers to Crunch&Sip their way to a healthier WA

21st Jan 2021

GolfWA has unveiled a refreshed identity for its junior program by adopting a new healthy message Crunch&Sip as part of its annual partnership with Healthway. Coordinated by Cancer Council WA, the Crunch&Sip program encourages healthy eating and drinking habits in children and young people and promotes good nutrition.

Healthway A/CEO Lorna Pritchard said: “it’s exciting to see the Crunch&Sip message feature across all junior events and activities this season.

Encouraging young golfers to fuel their game with more fruit, vegetables and water through our partnership with GolfWA is a great way to share this health message,” Ms Pritchard said.

These changes reflect a shared vision to build a healthy and more active Western Australia through the avenue of golf by transitioning MyGolf participants into state-wide events through the Western Australian Junior Tour, Junior Stroke Averages Award and generally increase access to golf facilities.

GolfWA Chief Executive, Gary Thomas said: “GolfWA is proud of its longstanding partnership with Healthway and welcomed new healthy messaging to promote another important health message as we retire our association with Smarter than Smoking after 10 years of promoting this crucial message.

GolfWA’s previous association with Smarter than Smoking was during a time when creating a Smoke Free WA was a key strategic priority. While it is still an important issue in our society, we feel that our juniors will be able to relate to the objectives of Crunch&Sip and its focus on the health needs of young people.

Crunch&Sip will be used to provide education to junior golfers about the importance of refuelling with healthy food and drink. The Crunch&Sip program and its resources offer an easy way to help kids stay healthy and happy!

GolfWA’s new junior healthy messaging comes as Healthway marks 30 years of dedication to improving the health of all Western Australians. The new health message will be unveiled at Royal Perth Golf Club for the first Crunch&Sip Juniour Tour event of 2021.
