GolfWA Talent Development Program (TDP)
The GolfWA Talent Development Program (TDP) is focused on the development of athletes eligible for our current and future junior state squads.
The TDP aims to develop holistic athletes through workshops on practical skills, strength and conditioning, recovery, nutrition, psychology, values, integrity and teamwork. We have two tiers of funded athletes who are selected annually based on ability and attitude to allow us to create optimal training environments.
Our TDP athletes are invited to participate in 3-4 training sessions per year, which include on-course assessment, off-course holistic skills and testing, with an end-of-year TDP camp/event in December. Elite PGA professional coaches and accredited experts in their field will deliver all programs.
Applications open each December for the subsequent year’s program, with selections confirmed each January. Once each application window is open, we will widely promote it on the GolfWA website as well as our social media channels. Previous applicants will also be informed directly.
Selection Expectations
- Must show aspirations to develop their golfing capacity on and off the course including strength and conditioning, physio screening, golf mindset, nutrition and wellbeing
- Must continually demonstrate expected behaviours of integrity, commitment, and respect for golf and the wider community
- Prospective athletes are expected to have played golf for a significant amount and committed to pursuing golf in the long term
- Before applying, prospective athletes are expected to have spoken to their coach and received their approval that they are ready for this level of program
Selection Criteria
- Turning 12 years old (or older) in each year of selection, or turning 18 after April 9, 2024, in order to be eligible for the 2024 Junior Interstate Teams Matches
- Junior Stroke Averages, Crunch&Sip Junior Tour Averages and GOLF Link Handicaps*
- GolfWA may call the respective player’s coach
*GolfWA chooses not to specify a stroke average/handicap minimum as we are selecting across a variety of ages and the selection process will identify talent for their age
Selection Process
- A TDP selection panel will select athletes based on the selection criteria
- There is a maximum capacity of 54 athletes
- GolfWA reserves the right to promote athletes from Tier 2 into Tier 1 throughout the year
