Felton top of the heap in NSW

4th Feb 2014

Jarryd Felton has secured yet another major title on the national amateur circuit, winning the NSW Amateur with a 3&1 victory over James Bannan of Victoria in today’s final at Concord Golf Course.

Felton’s NSW Amateur Matchplay win will sit alongside his 2013 Queensland Strokeplay and his national title at the 2013 Mandurah Amateur as his biggest career wins to date, all achieved in the past six months.

It’s been a successful week for WA amateur golf, earning a clean sweep of the Men’s NSW Amateur Championships with Cottesloe’s Curtis Luck taking out the NSW Strokeplay a week prior.

Felton, who placed in a tie for fifth in the NSW Strokeplay, ousted his good friend Luck 2&1 in the semi-finals yesterday en route to the final where he overcame Bannan in a tight contest.

Ranked as the 53rd amateur in the World prior to the final, Felton is likely to move into the top 50 where he is expected to earn coveted starts at the US Amateur and Western Amateur.

A top-50 world ranking also puts Felton in line for a potential national squad selection, where he would receive more support and funding to travel to major national and international events, as well as exemptions into major tournaments such as the Australian Open.

Felton will now turn his focus to next week’s Tasmanian Open, one of the primary national amateur title events on the 2014 calendar, and then look to rub shoulders with the professionals at the Victorian Open.
