Dreams can come true

My little girl – her dreams are finally coming true!

Words of delight from Donna Rudgeley, as daughter Kirsten continues her stellar performance, qualifying for the 2021 AIG Women’s Open.  Kirsten had an outstanding final qualifying round, carding a 69 in challenging conditions at Panmure Golf Club to sail through confidently into AIG Women’s Open final field.

Dreams come true indeed.  We all couldn’t be prouder of you Curly.

Mount Lawley member Kirsten will join the elite field of professionals to battle it out for the 2021 Open at Carnoustie, alongside fellow top ranked West Australians Hannah Green, Whitney Hillier and Minjee Lee.  Kirsten is fresh from winning the 2021 English Amateur Title and the 2021 Helen Holm Scottish Amateur.

Even with all this success, it will be expected Kirsten will tackle The Open, much like any other day. Her cruisy, calm and warm nature will let this youngster take the big time in her stride.  She has a sharp, professional head on amateur shoulders, and this string of successes is just a small sign of her bright future ahead.

Kirsten shared after her qualification today, “My granddad, Alf, is 102 and he lives in Southend. It was nice to see him and come over and play a bunch of tournaments.  I’ve done pretty well in the events and it’s been nice to travel from Australia and be competitive again.”

“I was born in London, but left when I was about four. I don’t really sound English at all! I’ve lived my life over there, growing up in Perth. I had my Royal Troon jumper on today, my mum bought it for me after my win there in the Helen Holm. I always try and get something from where I’ve been.”

“It will be an awesome experience to play at Carnoustie. I was pretty nervous for the qualifying at Panmure, knowing there were only 15 spots available.”

“The way I’ve been playing I felt confident and it was good to do it. I know Hannah Green and Minjee Lee are playing in the event as well. I’ve walked a few holes at Carnoustie before, when I was at a previous amateur event in Scotland, we had a stroll over the links.”

We can’t wait to see how the week unfolds for Kirsten Rudgeley, Hannah Green, Whitney Hillier and Minjee Lee as they tackle the challenging field and course for the 2021 AIG Open.
