Country Week comes to close with win over the City boys

8th Oct 2021

Fourteen metropolitan courses challenged 340 gents from the country this week as 2021 Drummond Golf Country Week came to a close. Some outstanding and some not so outstanding rounds, but most importantly friendship reunions, cheers, and a whole lot of laughter.

Kukerin’s Ross Ditchburn shared, “This week is such great opportunity to have a break before the harvest season.  I always have a tremendous time catching up with the boys.” “It’s a big setup and I would like to thank all the metropolitan clubs who have hosted up this week. There really are some ripper courses.”

Brookton’s Ryan “Sherro” Sheridan had a tremendous win on Tuesday in the prestigious 36-hole Stroke event, securing the title over Bunbury’s Tim Gilotti who was chasing a three peat of the crown. Gilotti and his lucky shirt were close, stumbling on the third play-off hole for Sherro to nail the win. Sherro took to the podium to share, “I honestly never thought I would win this one!  Very pleased.  A huge thank you to Hartfield for letting us enjoy this course for the whole day today, and to Drummond Golf for sponsoring this week.”

Stroke and Stableford rounds were enjoyed on Wednesday at Gosnells and Pinjarra, with the “highlight of the week” taking place on Thursday – the 36-hole Foursomes hosted by The Vines Country Club. Bunbury dominated the leaderboard securing the win and second place. Shane O’Donovan and Simon Golem took home the title by a healthy six strokes over club mates Tim Gilotti and Adam McGill.

Friday concluded the competition at Nedlands Golf Club with the top seven players from the 36 hole stroke round challenging seven city boys in a matchplay round.  One would think the country chaps may have had enough after four consecutive golfing days, however clearly all the practice paid off.  Country had a confident win over Metro in the final matchplay competition 4.5- 2.5.  Just the final icing on the cake of a fantastic week.

GolfWA would like to extend our sincere thanks to the fourteen clubs who hosted the 2021 Drummond Golf Country Week competition, and our generous sponsors Drummond Golf.
