Clear winners at State Foursomes

8th Aug 2022

The State Foursomes Championship is always a big day for players tackling the 36 holes. The Vines presented incredibly well despite the amount of rain they had received in the 48 hours leading up to Sunday’s championship. Players who enjoy playing in their pair always seem to come out on top and yesterday’s results continue that trend once again.

Royal Perth pairing, Silvester Tan and Jordan Jung raced away with the men’s title, an incredible nine strokes ahead of runners-up, Mandurah pair, Izaac Heales and Benjamin Sheehan. Royal Perth will be happy with results as Peter Bennett and Corley McLernon closely followed a shot behind in third.

Long time mates, Tan and Jung showed off their chemistry, backing up a strong first round of 73 with an incredibly impressive 68 to finish with a huge lead and a total of 141. The pair laughed and joked their way around the course, showcasing both their relaxed nature and composed shot making, especially through the second eighteen.

“We have fun playing together, it was great to pay today and to win makes it even better”, said Tan as they posed for a quick shot with the trophy after being announced as champions.

The 2022 State Amateur Champion Celine Chen and runner-up Mia Lawson were always going to be a strong pairing considering their strong form this year. The Joondalup pair finished one shot ahead of second-placed Mount Lawley’s Erina Tan and Valerie Khuu to claim the 2022 title. Another pair of Mount Lawley playing partners finishing close behind in third was Ruby Cotton and Amanda Gan.

Tan and Khuu exploded out of the blocks to score 74 in their first play-through of The Vines’ Lakes course before posting a 79 in their second round. Lawson and Chen flipped the script, posting a 78 in their first round before following up with a 74 to pip their Mount Lawley rivals by a solitary shot.
