The Bunbury Golf Club’s commitment to ensuring an inclusive environment has been enhanced following the establishment of its junior girls’ golf squad.
After securing funding from the Australian Golf Foundation, the club became one of four venues across the State (25 throughout Australia) to offer the initiative which is designed to encourage junior girls to play golf and ensure they keep playing into their teenage years.
Five golfers from the BCC received scholarships as part of the program.
BCC junior co-ordinator Peta Van Wyk said she was optimistic about the program’s future. “This is a terrific opportunity,” she said.
“Not only will the girls receive 24 coaching sessions with teaching professional Shani Waugh in a specialised girls’ golf squad environment, but also a one-year junior club membership that carries playing rights to ensure girls can participate in club competitions and obtain a handicap.”
Shani Waugh was recently honored as the newest member of the WA Golf Industry Hall of Champions on Friday night at the 2021 WA Golf Industry Awards which were held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
