There were enormous smiles and sportsmanship well beyond their years as junior golfers competed in the final round of the Girls and Boys pennant flags and the Crunch & Sip Junior Golfing tour on four different courses yesterday.  Supported by parents, fellow members and friends, host clubs Royal Perth, Gosnells, Joondalup and Pinjarra were full to the brim with families enjoying the golf and hospitality.

The Division One Boy’s flag was confidently won for the fifth year in a row by the Joondalup boys, winning all five matches on their home turf.  The team has depth, experience and a strong friendship foundation, with Tom Addy, and captain Ian Pienaar enjoying their 5th successive flag. Runners-up Mount Lawley have shown serious promise for next year, with the younger squad nipping at the heels of Joondalup who will lose Pienaar from the Junior ranks.

Joondalup’s Junior Coordinator and Club Pennant Manager, John Greer has been a consistent presence and support for the boys.

“I am thrilled for the boys securing their fifth flag.  They work hard and show enormous commitment.  Captain Steve Leonard and Brad Hall from our club have been invaluable supporters this year of the Junior Pennant teams.  They deserve a huge amount of thanks.”

The Girl’s Division 1 final round came down to the wire, with matches neck and neck to the 18th.  Mount Lawley GC were victorious in the flag, with their team “The Beasts”, winning 4.5 matches over the Lake Karrinyup team placing them one match ahead of the Joondalup/The Vines/Cottesloe team.  The two teams finished on equal points at the end of the season, determining the flag winner came down to wins for and against.

Mount Lawley’s Amanda Gan was outstanding, steady and focused, as was Erina Tan and Ruby Fry.  Joondalup’s Amie Phobubha didn’t falter from the lead, and Cottesloe’s Elise Gavin was 6 down with 6 to go, managing to square the match.  There is some girl power there.
