Thanks to recent announcements by both Federal and State Government, GolfWA is excited to announce the resumption of events with a revised fixture commencing from July 1.
GolfWA will be supporting our Clubs, their players and staff to implement and manage the protocols required for competition to resume and will be providing ongoing information and support over the coming weeks.
The revamped events schedule will launch with four junior events set to take place in the July school holidays. Wanneroo GC will host the Cobra Puma Junior Championships from July 6 to 7. This will be followed by the Drummond Golf 54 Hole Classic that is held in WA’s South West Region from July 15-17. Harvey, Collie and Sanctuary Cove will each host a round of this year’s tournament.
Two events of our much-loved Smarter than Smoking Junior Tour will also take place during this period, a three-round event in conjunction with the Drummond Golf 54 Hole Classic and a one-round event at Melville Glades Golf Club on Monday July 6.
The Senior Amateur Championships of Western Australia have been rescheduled to August 2-3 and will now be contested over 36 holes.
Both Men’s and Women’s Drummond Golf Country Week events remain as originally scheduled with host venues yet to be confirmed. The Women’s event will take place from September 2nd-4th whilst the Men’s event will take place from October 5th-9th.
Donnybrook Golf Club remains committed to hosting the Aglime of Australia Women’s Rural Bronze and GolfWA are excited to announce the tournament has been rescheduled for July 24-26.
Hopetoun Everett Golf Club is no longer able to host the Provincial tournament in 2020 however, Katanning CC have made their course available and will host the event from August 7-9. Entries for both the Aglime Rural Bronze and Provincial are now open.
Thanks to further easing of restrictions, we are extremely excited to announce that both the Aglime Sand Greens Championship and the Women’s Regional Seniors can take place in 2020. The Aglime Sand Greens Championship has been rescheduled for September 10-13 and we will have more information on the Regional Seniors in the next few weeks.
The Annual Golf Day and Dinner will proceed as fixtured on August 14 at Royal Perth Golf Club.
Unfortunately, the Bowra & O’Dea Women’s Classic has been cancelled for 2020. We look forward to hosting this event again in 2021.
All the above events are subject to change due to COVID-19 restrictions and directions by the State and Federal Governments and/or the WA Health Department.
“Our industry understands that we have been in a fortunate position respective to other sports in that golf has continued to be played and are excited that the easing of restrictions allows us to resume tournaments. We also fully understand and accept our responsibility to our Clubs, golfers and staff,” GolfWA Chief Executive Gary Thomas said.
“We hope to see as many golfers as possible entering our tournaments, getting some fresh air, exercise and engaging in some friendly competition in a safe and monitored environment.”
All future decisions regarding tournaments will be made with adherence to State Government protocols. For all up-to-date COVID-related information please visit http://www.golfwa.org.au/cms/2020/04/covid-19-faq/
