The 2018 Junior Pennants season kicks off this weekend, with some of the state’s best youngsters going head-to-head for the next five weeks around some of the best golf courses in Western Australia.
There will be six divisions competing throughout the competition, with four representing the boys’, while the girls’ will take part over two divisions.
In Boys’ Division One, Joondalup will be keen for another strong showing after securing the title on the final day last season over Royal Fremantle. The two teams will again meet on Sunday at Lakelands, with Fremantle looking to avenge for their defeat of ten months ago.
Mandurah have moved into the top division this year, with a number of strong inclusions allowing the side to battle in a higher grade. Given the team was undefeated previously in Division Two, they will be one to watch come Sunday against Royal Perth.
For the first time in Division One Boys’, all fixtures will be played at neutral venues, creating an opportunity for a level playing field across all contests in an exciting initiative for the competition.
South West and Goldfields have combined to field Division Two teams in both the girls’ and boys’ competition, and it will be the first time that junior players will represent the south west region in pennants.
The players will travel every single week in a terrific commitment to the pennant competition. The boys’ will challenge Gosnells at Mandurah Country Club, while the girls’ will take on Mount Lawley at Royal Perth.
Lakelands and Lake Karrinyup are the other welcome additions to Division Two Boys’, opening their accounts at Mandurah as well.
Pinjarra and South West/Goldfields will also compete in Division Four, underlying the outstanding representation from all around the state.
Mount Lawley girls’ will be hoping to dominate the competition again this season after a clean sweep of divisions in 2017.
There will be two sides representing the defending champions in Division One this season, and ironically Mount Lawley’s two teams will face off against each other in round one at Royal Perth Golf Club.
Royal Fremantle are the other major contender for the title, with their first test to be against Royal Perth at their home course.
All tee off times for Junior Pennants will commence at 7.30am.
