Royal Fremante’s Cameron Jones and Ben Ferguson of The Vines have both qualified for the Australian squad after the Australian final of the Aaron Baddeley International Junior Championships held at Heritage Golf Club in Victoria.
Both Jones (2nd) and Ferguson (3rd) finished in the top four to earn a place in the Australian Squad.
It was a successful event for WA, with Cameron Jones wining the Boys 17 year old division, Fred Lee of Royal Perth winning the 15 year old division, and Ferguson and Hira Naveed of Mount Lawley finishing as a runner-up in their respective divisions.
The Western Australian team of Min Woo Lee, Ben Ferguson, Hira Naveed and Claudia Pisano took out the teams event by an emphatic seven strokes over the second placed South Australia.
The China Final of the ABIJC will be held between the 17th and 23rd of November.
Royal Fremantle’s Cameron Jones leads the Aaron Baddeley International Junior Championships Australian final after an impressive opening round of 67 at the Heritage Golf Club in Victoria.
With the top four boy golfers earning a place in the Australian squad at the final stage in China, Jones holds a single stroke lead over the second placed David Micheluzzi, and five strokes ahead of a group of golfers in fifth place at even par.
Ben Ferguson of The Vines is also in the top four in equal third at 2-under par.
Min Woo Lee (2-over) and Fred Lee (3-over) are further back but are still well in contention of a top four place.
In the girls’ event, Hira Naveed of Mount Lawley is best placed in a tie for 3rd at even par, just one stroke back of the top two who earn a spot in the Australian squad in China.
Claudia Pisano is well in contention at 1-over in a tie for fifth, while Nicha Thanissorn is six strokes back at 5-over par.
Eight Western Australian’s have made the trip to Heritage Golf Club in Victoria for the Aaron Baddeley International Junior Championship Australian Final.
Played over two rounds on the 11th and 12th of October, the ABIJC Australian final will be played as a qualifier for the World final to be held in China in November.
Min Woo Lee (Royal Fremantle), Cameron Jones (Royal Fremantle), Fred Lee (Royal Perth), Connor Faulds (Royal Fremantle) and Ben Ferguson (The Vines) will compete in the boys final, with the top 4 out of the field of 66 earning a place in the Australian squad heading to China.
Hira Naveed, Claudia Pisano and Nicha Thanissorn, all from Mount Lawley Golf Club, will play in the girls championships, with the top two from the field of 36 earning spots in the Australian squad.
In last year’s event, Min Woo Lee and Curits Luck earned selections to go to China, where Min Woo Lee finished fourth overall and won the 15 & Under category.
